FLSmidth’s cement activities in Egypt

Summary

The global cement industry is responsible for around 5% of global CO2 emissions. But given that cement is very difficult to replace, the major global challenge is how to balance increasing global demand with the need to reduce the emissions and energy consumption. The study documents how high levels of education, training and safety combined with a high quality plant can generate low emissions and energy levels as well as high earnings for plant owners and thereby providing financial incentive to reduce emissions and energy levels.

Project background

The impact study was carried by Qbis together with Deloitte. The objective was to assess the socio-economic impacts of ACC Ramliya cement plant that FLSmidth has built and currently operates for the client Arabian Cement Company. FLSmidth has used the results in connection with its capital market day for investors, the annual sustainability reports in 2014 and 2015, the video about its new concept “Tomorrow Matters” and for sales purposes.
